Praise Allah and always honor His and our Holy and Divine Prophet Noble Drew Ali.

To effectively deal with this subject, we must know the truthful facts about Unity Hall and what Moors are saying  about 3140 Indiana that simply is not true but deceptive to sway you to their viewpoint.

1. I heard a Moor say on Blog Talk Radio that we must get Unity Hall back. The truth is that we never had Unity Hall. We were tenants. We started out in the basement. There was a Chruch on the 1st floor. They would stomp on the floor and disturb the Prophet’s Meeting. Noble Drew Ali said that’s alright “Soon they will be down here and and we will be up there”. Noble Drew Ali exercised his powers and so it was, we took over the 1st floor and they went to the basement.
2. Unity Hall was never the Headquarters for the MST of A.
3. Our Prophet – Noble Drew Ali never had an office at Unity Hall.
4. Home Office was never located in Unity Hall.
5. Unity Hall was never the Grand Major Temple. It was the meeting location for Subordinate Temple # 1 (That’s what the Charter says) and related Temple # 1 functions (My Great Grand Parents, Grand Parents, Father & Mother were there).
You must know that the words Grand Body and Grand Major Temple are synomomous. Temple # 1 is a Subordinate Temple not the Grand Major Temple. This is substantiated by Temple # 1′s Charter and Historical Documents. Moors who have always been in certain Temples as a general rule have not had access to these documents due to the fact that they have no connection to the Original Grand Body.

Now here are the facts that you must consider to determine whether Unity Hall is a positive or negative factor in Moorish American History:
1. Unity Hall proved itself to be the operating base for those Moors who were adversaries and enemies of our Prophet Noble Drew Ali. They were camped out on the 2nd floor.
2. Our Prophet Noble Drew Ali purchased some land at 37th & Federal Street and planned to consolidate the Temple # 1 functions from Unity Hall and the Home Office functions from 3603 Indiana into a building to be built there.
3. The Prophet’s enemies at Unity Hall plotted bogus rape charges against him and eventually Bro. Claude Green Bey was shot and killed on the 2nd floor at Unity Hall. The Prophet was out of town when this crime occurred, but he was arrested and the police attempted to charge him with Murder & Rape. Noble Drew Ali was detained in the cold damp basement at 48th & Wabash Avenue where he caught pnuemonia.
4. Our Prophet being fed up with Unity Hall, sent Bro. E. Mealy El a telegram informing him that he would soon be free of all Murder and Rape Charges. He also informed Bro. E. Mealy El that upon his release we would be holding our Meetings at that New Building on State Street (Pythian Temple).
For all the above reasons, our Prophet moved us out of Unity Hall (3140 South Indiana). In my humble opinion, there is no evidence that after what he experienced there, he would ever return or condone our returning.
Based upon the facts as I know them and can substantiate with Historical Documents, we must not and cannot return to Unity Hall. I was born in Chicago in 1939. I have never entered Unity Hall. My reason being, If Noble Drew Ali took us out, why would we return? What leader in his right mind would take us back into something that Noble Drew Ali took us out of? You decide. Is Unity Hall a Positive or Negative Factor in Moorish American History in Chicago, Illinois?

Surah 11:58-60,”So when Our decree issued, We saved Hud and those who believed with him, by special Grace from Ourselves: We saved them from a severe penalty. Such were the ‘Ad People: they rejected the Signs of their Lord and Cherisher; disobeyed His messengers; And followed the command of every powerful, obstinate transgressor. And they were pursued by a Curse in this life and on the Day of Judgment. Ah! Behold! For the ‘Ad rejected their Lord and Cherisher! Ah! Behold! Removed (from sight) were ‘Ad the people of Hud!”
In 1925, Allah appointed, consecrated, and anointed Noble Drew Ali our Prophet to redeem us from our fallen state which engulfed our people in utter darkness and disbelief. Allah had issued a decree to us and instructed us to obey His Divine Prophet in all of His Instructions, no matter the cost. And he also told us to protect him and His Divine and National principles of his Temples.
As we are taught within the Temple that Truth is Aught, and Aught is Allah, we know that Truth transcends time and space. Because of this, we know that we can find parallel truths throughout history.
In the before mentioned scripture, we find that a group of people had been given a special Grace from Allah that was to save them from a severe penalty. Some chose not to obey Allah and were cursed and removed or in other words “disappeared as a Nation of people”. These people chose to follow commands of transgressors of Allah instead of doing what was right.
We find this going on today amongst our people. This is why the Holy Prophet Noble Drew Ali stated that only a few will be saved when Allah’s wrath is placed upon this earthland.
Our fezzes and turbans represent that we are a people who have received a divine decree from Allah. They represent that we believe in Him and that we had attained a special Grace from Ourselves. Many are still being pursued by a curse in this life and will suffer on the Day of Judgment because they rather follow the mere ideas of men, and not the precepts of their Prophet.
Transgressors are those who know what is right and choose to do the opposite. They have dressed up other men in fancy garbs and call them priests and charge them to restrain the wrath of Allah. They have defrauded their friends and foes alike.
We within The Moorish Science Temple of America take pride in knowing that regardless of opposition, all is well because Allah is leading on and victory is assured. The cursed will be removed and the pure and clean shall remain.

The M.S.T. of A. is not and cannot be a 501(c)3 organization/corporation, because a 501(c)3 is a “creature” of the legislature, created by the state and therefore controlled by the state and has no constitutional rights except for a limited right to advertise. It has no rights. It has only privileges-which can be taken away at anytime by the state. In fact, all statutory organizations (created by legislature) and known as “Public Entities”, are controlled by the state.
Our Prophet made us a Nation within a Nation.The M.S.T. of A. is a Free National Standard (Something established by the use of authority-our Prophet’s authority) and cannot be controlled, influenced or changed by another nation.
In the 1960′s & 1970′s there was a rush by Temples established in violation of Act # 1 of our Additional Laws to be recognized and identified by the Europeans as the “Real” M.S.T. of A., and Moors turned their backs to our Prophet- Noble Drew Ali to compete for recognition by the states in which they were domiciled.
As a young Supreme Grand Sheik in the 1970′s, even I became apprehensive and sought to engage in defensive actions. But after heated debates with our Moorish Elders (Sis. D. Mealy El, Sis L. Griffin El, Bro. C. Dillard Bey and Sis P. Leftwich El) and getting expert Legal Advice, which confirmed that our Grand Body was the filer and possessor of the document on the back of our 101, I saw the wisdom of accepting the fact that our Prophet – Noble Drew Ali had given us “everything” that we needed and to trust in him at all times.
The light is now shining in the dark and Moors must wake-up and begin to see the light and stop straying after the “Mere ideas of men”, which have never done us any good, but have always caused us harm.

I am deeply concerned about Moors who have aligned themselves with Emmanuel Braswell who continues to defame my character. I believe it’s because I represent the Original Grand Body established by Noble Drew Ali and not them. Could there be a host of jealousy about me and the Movement? I told the Moor in Cleveland (A’damuel C. Brown El) many months ago, that he was being misled, misguided and lied to by Emmanuel Braswell Bey. I hope that he takes the posting that I made, listing what I know Emmanuel Braswell Bey does not have and have Braswell Bey show him the items and prove me wrong. We must pray for Bro. A’damuel C. Brown El and hope that he is not a Convicted Felon with a Criminal Mentality but just a Weak Minded Moor. Remember our Prophet said “They are trying every weak mind“. Braswell Bey uses weak-minded Moors like Brown El (AKA Crenshaw El). He used another of his unqualified Adepts (Bro. Brian Kerney El ) to engage in Criminal Activity. Bro Brian Kerney El is one of those Moors who had not paid any Per Capita Tax, Uplifting Funds nor Special Taxes for years, but were made Adepts by Braswell Bey in order to stack the SGC. Braswell Bey in order to evade paying the Federal Court a filing Fee in his suit against me, Ra Saadi El, T.K. Harris Bey, Bro. Lane El and Bro. Sataar El, used Bro. Kerney El to file a fraudulent document with the U.S. District Court , wherein Bro. Brian Kerney El said he was an Officer of a Penal Institution and that Braswell Bey was entitled to “Pauper Status” when filing his case. Moors who engage in Criminal Conduct are not my friends, they are the friends of Bro A’Damuel C. Brown El who according to the facts is a Convicted Felon with a Criminal Mentality. Birds of a feather flock together! These Moors are not the friends of Law Abiding Faithful Moors. Why did A’Damuel C. Brown El go to jail ? What was he convicted of? Will it shed light on his current conduct? We must clean up our house. You can no longer sit on the sideline and say it’s a dispute between Bailey El and Braswell Bey. Are you with Braswell Bey, Kerney El & A’Damuel C. Brown El? Are they Criminals? This is just one of their CRIMES! Are you with our Prophet, Love, Truth, Peace, Freedom, and Justice or are you with them?

Its time for all Moors to engage themselves in the process of our achieving Unity. We must stop falsely accusing Moors, repeating information put out by habitual liars (Man knows naught by being told), and aligning ourselves with Moors who have been proven to have engaged in Criminal Activities. We will point them OUT. Recently Bro. A’Damuel C. Brown El (Cleveland, Ohio), said that the fraudulent and bogus Complaint for Injunctive Relief filed by Emanuel Braswell Bey in the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois against Bro. T. K. Harris Bey, Bro Ra. Saadi El, Bro. Lane El, Bro. Sataar El and Bro. D. Bailey El was only flawed in that he did not have proper counsel. Bro. A’Damuel C. Brown El has read the Court Summary and evidently lacks reading comprehension skills. Here are the facts disclosed in the Case Summary issued by the Federal Court of Northern Illinois:
1. Emanuel Braswell Bey sent a Paralegal who said she was Michelle Thomas into the Dirksen Federal Building to file his complaint. She was found to be not a licensed Attorney and possibly imitating a real Attorney by that name. The court said “The court is aware of two other Federal Cases in which Ms. Thomas has attempted to appear in violation of Federal Law and is directing to forward a copy of it’s order to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the United States Attorney’s offices for such further action.” In his amended complaint, Braswell Bey violated law by attempting to portray himself as an attorney as evidenced by the court saying “The complaint is signed by Sheik Braswell Bey, who does not appear to be a lawyer.” Braswell Bey said in his complaint that the defendants had breached a Charter issued to them by the Grand Sheik of Temple # 1.
The truth is that he had not issued a Charter to any of the Defendants and the Grand Sheik of a Subordinate Temple (per #1′s Charter) cannot issue Charters and the real truth is that at the time he filed his complaint, he had never in his life issued a Charter.
2. To evade paying the Court Filing Fees, Braswell Bey engaged in the criminal activity of having Bro. Brian Kerney El complete a form that is used by incarcerated individuals to file Forma Pauperis. Bro. Kerney El performed a Criminal Act when he signed the form and indicated that he was an Officer in a Penal Institution. The court told Braswell Bey
“Only individuals, not corporations , may proceed in Forma Pauperis.”
3. The most offensive and outrageous Criminal Act is according to our Law (Embezzlement of the Faith) was that in his complaint Braswell Bey sought to achieve Federal Jurisdiction in his complaint by telling the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois that the M.S.T. of A. was a “Branch of the Federal Government and thus is Authorized to file suit in a Federal Court.” The Federal Court told Braswell Bey, “This allegation directly conflicts with the basic constitutional principle of separation of church and state and has no discernible basis in fact.” This Moor was willing to sell us out in order to have his way. Now we can see why Noble Drew Ali said “Your way you want and your way you will have, but your way just won’t do.”
Braswell Bey IS NOT according to the evidence of this Case Summary in sync with Allah , Noble Drew Ali and the Faithful Members of the M.S.T. of A. This is why we must ask the Question,” Why do Moors like Bro A’Damuel C. Brown El support and cling to Braswell Bey?” Does it make sense? We need UNITY and we can only have it when we get in sync with our Father God Allah, Our Holy & Divine Prophet Noble Drew Ali and start loving even the Unfaithful. It won’t be easy, but let’s try. This blog has been created to clear up some confusion that we came across on Facebook.
It gives us within The Moorish Science Temple of America the opportunity to address some misinformation and shed some light on what hinders us as a Nation of people.

Quoted from the Supreme Grand Council video: “After the departure of the Prophet, they returned to a system of voting and other mere ideas of man in conducting the affairs of the organization. The result has been confusion”. —Past SGS P Davis El

What the SGS P.Davis El(may Allah be Pleased with him) was demonstrating is that the system of voting is not to be found within this Divine and National Movement; specifically in the aspect of positions of leadership. These are practices that are borrowed from foreigners that cannot be found historically in any of our communities.The Holy Prophet Noble Drew Ali re-established this Nation-State as a Jama’at which is a community united around an Islamic ideology.

Surah 22:67,” To every nation We appointed acts of devotion, which they observe, so let them not dispute with thee in the matter, and call to thy Lord. Surely thou art on a right guidance”.

When The Holy Prophet Noble Drew Ali stated in the back inside page of our Holy Koran,“The fallen sons and daughters of the Asiatic Nation of North America need to learn to love instead of hate; and to know of their higher self and lower self. This is the uniting of the Holy Koran of Mecca, for teaching and instructing of all Moorish Americans, etc.”, he was instructing us to govern ourselves at all times by that which came from Allah by His Prophets(May Allah Be Pleased with All of Them) and not that which is mere opinion or popular.

As the SGS D.Bailey El stated,“In the 1929 Convention Minutes (They came up missing on the day that P. Davis El changed form and Braswell Bey snacthed up the HOT BOX at P. Davis El’s house.), Our Prophet told us “I have given you the Divine Plan of the Ages and nothing can be changed.” So when Hubbert-Bey says “Now according to the Rules & Usages we hold convention to vote for officers”, you should see that this is a change that C. Kirkman Bey made in the Prophet’s Plan. We were organized as a Religious Corp. in accordance with Hurds Revised Statutes, which means initially we had a choice to appoint or elect officers. Our Prophet chose to appoint and we must imitate our Prophet. Therefore we cannot hold Elections.”

In a letter written by SGS E. Mealy El(may Allah be Pleased with him) addressed to Brother Crumby Bey dated June 17, 1931, he stated in part: “They govern their actions by majority which is alright if the majority is right. On the other hand, if the one is right, that one is the majority, that is Islam; but they want to run the Moorish Science Temple of America according to the principles of Christianity, or politics. That is, you may be ever so wrong, but if the majority is with you, you are right anyway but not so in Islam”.

Based upon the actions of those who chose not to agree with The Holy Prophet Noble Drew Ali and the one that was appointed to the station of Supreme Grand Sheik, Bro. Edward Mealy El, they saw fit to leave this body of politic in 1934 and create their own organization known as The Moorish Science Temple of America, Inc. which is a Domestic group that participates in the system of voting.

The Holy Prophet Noble Drew Ali returned to us our forefathers and mothers ancient ways of life as it was being demonstrated in the video of this blog. The Supreme Grand Council is a circle of knowledge and the Grand Body is a larger circle of knowledge where members come to a consensus based upon that which is right, divine, and holy.

Appointment of Umar as his Successor

Nomination of successor. Realizing that his end was drawing near, Abu Bakr felt that he should nominate his successor so that the issue should not be a cause of dissension among the Muslims after his death. Abu Bakr summoned Abdul Rahman bin Auf, and asked for his opinion about the nomination of Umar as the Caliph, Abdul Rahman favored the nomination. Some other companions were also consulted. The general consensus was that Umar was the fittest person to be appointed as the Caliph. Usaid bin Hudai said, “After you, O Caliph, Umar is the most deserving person for the office of the Caliph. There is none more resolute than he among us. His inner self is better than his exterior.” Usman favored the nomination and remarked, “What is hidden of Umar is better than what outwardly appears; there is not his equal amongst us.” Sayeed bin Zaid supported the proposal emphatically.

The general consensus. The general consensus was that Umar was the fittest person to be nominated as the Caliph. There was, however, an under current of feeling that Umar had the fiery and irascible temper, and he might not be able to show moderation so necessary for the head of the community. Abu Bakr observed that Umar’s display of severity was meant to counteract his (Abu Bakr’s) leniency. Abu Bakr felt that when the full responsibility of government was devolved upon Umar, he would become moderate in his opinion. Abu Bakr said: “I can say from my personal experience that Umar has always cooled me down whenever I have lost my temper with any one, just as whenever he felt me to be too lenient he counseled greater severity. For this reason I feel certain that with time, Umar will achieve the moderation that you desire.”

Objection of Talha. Talha who was related to Abu Bakr, and perhaps coveted the caliphate for himself objected to the nomination of Umar. He said: “O successor of the Prophet, you knew full well how harsh Umar has been towards us all during your regime, and God only knows what he will meet to us when you are gone. You know that you are leaving us forever, and yet you are content to leave us in the hands of a man whose fierce and ungovernable rages are well known to you. Think O Chief, what answer will you give to Your Lord for such a behest?”

At this objection of Talha, Abu Bakr who was lying prostrate on his bed rose up with considerable effort and addressing Talha said: “Have you come to frighten me? I swear that when I meet my Lord, I will gladly tell Him that I appointed as ruler over His people, the man who was the best of them all.”

Ali. Thereupon Ali who was present on the occasion rose to say that he would acknowledge no one as Caliph save Umar. Abu Bakr was much impressed with the integrity of Ali for not pressing his own claim, and putting the interests, of the community above his personal interests. Turning to Ali, Abu Bakr said: “Ali, you are indeed a prince in the most exalted sense of the word, for others are mere men.”

Umar. Then Abu Bakr sent for Umar, and informed him that he had nominated him as his successor. Umar said that he did not covet the office. Thereupon Abu Bakr said, “But the office needs you. I have prayed to God to direct me rightly to the choice of my successor, and my choice is fundamental for the unity and of the Muslims.”

The testament. Umar acquiesced, and Abu Bakr dictated the testament to Usman in the following terms: “In the name of Most Merciful God. This is the last will and testament of Abu Bakr bin Abu Qahafa, when he is in the last hour of the world, and the first of the next; an hour in which the infidel must believe, the wicked be convinced of their evil ways, I nominate Umar bin al Khattab as my successor. Therefore, hear to him and obey him. If he acts right, confirm his actions. My intentions are good, but I cannot see the future results. However, those who do ill shall render themselves liable to severe account hereafter. Fare you well. May you be ever attended by the Divine favor of blessing.”

Approval of the people. The testament having been drawn up, Abu Bakr supported by his wife Asma walked up to the door and addressed the people who had collected there. He told them that he had appointed Umar as his successor. They said, “We approve”. After obtaining the approval of the people in general terms, Abu Bakr lay on the bed, and prayed to God: “O Lord! I have made this testament for the welfare of the community in order to counteract discord among them. What my intentions are, You know full well. I have spared no pains in making the best selection, O God, I entrust the Muslims to Your care. O Allah, keep their ruler on the right path. O God, make my successor the most pious of rulers, and confer peace on the Muslims.”

Counsel to Umar. Addressing his successor, Umar, Abu Bakr said: “Let not sorrow for me divert you from the service of the Lord. You saw what I myself did when the Prophet died, and there could be no greater sorrow for mankind than that. Truly, if grief had stayed me then from girding my loins in the cause of the Lord and of His Prophet, and if, I swear by Allah, I had shown the slightest weakness in carrying out the command of Allah on that day. He would have punished us by bringing on us destruction. I expect you to do your duty against all odds. May God bless you.”

In closing, SGS Edward Mealy El stated in the same letter,“But Drew Ali said to me on his sick bed before he passed,”You do what I tell you. Never mind what they say. Our spiritual ascent as Moors is based upon our observance of the Islamic law and our participation in the inner reality of the faith of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) and the Prophet Noble Drew Ali (Peace be upon him) which renders us knowledge of the highest truth from the presence of ALLAH. It is through discipline and piety that we approach being with ALLAH and knowledge of the truth of truths as mentioned in Sura 16:128 when it reads, “Surely ALLAH is with those who restrain themselves for fear of Him and those who do good.” So the discipline and piety of restraining ourselves by fasting is definitely one of the most efficient means of seeking ALLAH’s satisfaction and favors. Fasting consists not in only abstaining from eating and drinking, so do not delude yourselves because there are many people that do not derive any benefit from their fasting except hunger and thirst. Fasting consists in preventing all of your limbs from anything that might entail heedlessness in relation to ALLAH’s reverence and demonstrating noble character. Such that fasting during the holy month of Ramadan combines both the individual and communal aspects of our religion: during the day we fast as individuals, which is an exercise in self-discipline and obedience to ALLAH and at night we break our fast together to celebrate our unity as a community of believers and our gratitude to ALLAH.
The Prophet Jesus (Peace be upon him) taught us that, “understanding is the rock on which man builds himself; it is the gnosis of the aught and the naught, of falsehood and truth.” And gnosis by definition is esoteric knowledge of spiritual truths that were held by our ancient forefathers which are essential to our salvation. So to ensure our elders and posterity that we are spiritually ascending upon the path of ALLAH by participating in an inner reality based on the law and the gnosis of our ancient forefathers we humbly ask ALLAH to bless us with an appropriate understanding utilizing spirituality, science and history to better understand the lunar calendar as well as the concept of fasting during the month of Ramadan, the Night of Power and recommended days like the Day of Ãshurã.

An Islamic calendar day commonly known as a lunar calendar day, starts just after sunset and ends at sunset the next day. A lunar calendar month can be either 29 or 30 days; six months of 29 days and six months of 30 days. Each lunar calendar has 354 days and is 11 days shorter than a solar year, which is why Ramadan starts 11 days earlier each year when compared to the Gregorian calendar of 365 days. The beginning of Ramadan has traditionally been based on the detection of the crescent moon by the human eye without the use of optical aids. The months of the Islamic Calendar are Muharram, Safar, Rabi’ u-l-Awwal, Rabi’u-l-Akhar, Jumâda-l-Ûlâ, Jumâda-s-Sâni, Rajab, Sha’bân, Ramadân, Shawwal, Dhu-l-Khi’da and Dhu-l-Hijja. The Islamic calendar’s new month starts from the sunset after the new crescent is sighted; during the Prophet Mohammed’s time when there was confusion about starting the month of Ramadan, the Prophet’s verdict or advice was to start fasting after the sighting of the Ramadan crescent and stop fasting after the sighting of the Shawwal crescent.

Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam and it signifies a holy time for controlling the lower self and connecting with ALLAH. Ramadan is the lunar month in which the Quran was sent down to humanity, with clear signs for guidance and judgment as to what is permissible and wrong prohibited. Know that it is not permissible according to the law or gnosis, for any of us to change when the month of Ramadan starts because there is a science to calculating even the first day of the holiest period of the Islamic year. The start of the month of Ramadan commemorates the ninth lunar month in the year 610 CE when revelations began coming to the Prophet Mohammed from ALLAH, through the angel Gabriel. These revelations were memorized by the Prophet Mohammed, written down and later compiled to form the book that we call the Holy Quran of Mecca today. The lunar month of Ramadan begins at the time of the new moon (the time of conjunction); this is when the Earth, Moon, and Sun are all lined up. The term full moon is used when the moon is fully illuminated by the rays of the sun which is the opposite of the conjunction. The time of conjunction is when the moon has no illumination at all or is completely shaded or dark. It is referred to as the birth of the new moon because the next phase of the moon starts after this event. The moon remains completely dark or shaded for a short time but the new crescent of the moon cannot be visible even if it is in the horizon after sunset unless it is at least after 15 hours, provided that the sky is clear and visibility conditions are favorable.

Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, also clear Signs for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if anyone is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put difficulties upon you. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful. Quran 2:185

So neither the night nor the month in which the Quran was revealed to humanity should be changed; the night is respectively known as Nights of Ascent or Night of Power (Laylat Al Qadr) and the sacred month is called the month of Ramadan. The anniversary of the Night of Power occurs during the last 10 nights of Ramadan; most of the faithful remain vigilant in prayer and remembrance during each of these 10 nights in an attempt of worshipping on the Night of Power and obtaining the blessings of a thousand month (83.3 years) for one day of sincere worship.

We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to thee what the night of power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah’s permission, on every errand: Peace!…This until the rise of morn! Quran 97

So to find out which day in the last 10 days of Ramadan is actually the Night of Power, let us go back to 1915/1916 when Shaykh Ahmad El-Bekki from Senegal, West Africa gave his disciples the scientific formula for calculating the Night of Power which he wrote in a qasaids entitled The Most Distinguished Guest:

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE COMPASSIONATE, THE MERCIFUL

If the moon is sighted and seen on a:

• Sunday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 27th night of that Ramadan
• Monday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 19th night of that Ramadan.
• Tuesday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 25th night of that Ramadan.
• Wednesday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 17th night of that Ramadan.
• Thursday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 23rd night of that Ramadan.
• Friday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 29th night of that Ramadan.
• Saturday evening, the Night of Power would be on the 21st night of that Ramadan.

He even reminded us that, no matter which of the above evening one sees the moon, the Night of Power will always fall on Friday night (night of Thursday into Friday). And, then he informed us that the moon must be sighted and seen by at least a few credible adults muslims/moslems. According to Islamic law and the inner reality of the Shaykh, he was showing his disciples his spiritual station as Privileged Servant of the Prophet Mohammed by informing them about the month of Ramadan when they were arguing. He told them, “Let whoever saw what looked like a moon, know that they should wash their face and seek refuge in Allah against the accursed devil… Sha’ban has not waved goodbye to me, nor has Ramadan announced itself.” This Shaykh wanted to ensure that his disciples knew how to calculate the night of power by referencing the start of Ramadan. Some people believe that the revelation of the Quran was revealed entirely on the night of power and then and disseminated to his followers over a 23 year period.

“Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night: Lo! We are ever warning –
Whereon every wise command is made clear“ Quran 4: 3

While others believe that on this night the Prophet Mohammed was opened to the ability to perceive revelation and only a few short verses were revealed to him that night. This is captured in the following verses from the Quran where he saw the Angel Gabriel and he commanded him to:

“Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth. Createth man from a clot,
Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, Who teacheth by the pen
Teacheth man that which he knew not.” Quran 96: 1-5

We take the position that the Quran was both revealed entirely during the Night of Power and through individual revelations in Mecca and Medina to the Prophet Mohammed; the revelations were collected, memorized and disseminated to his followers during the lifetime of Prophet Mohammed. And soon after his death his closest companions and members of his family put it in book form. This Quran or Furqan once compiled consisted of 114 chapters called suras and verses within each sura called ayats. The word “ayat” means sign; each ayat of the Quran is a sign or revelation from ALLAH. It instructs us in matters of law, morality, and spirituality; it is not only limited to these categories but contains something for everyone that is determined to read it sincerely. There are some believers, like the eminent Imam Mãlik, that were in the habit of fasting three days out of every month, not just during Ramadan. Our ancestors selected special days which they specifically regarded as beneficial when fasting, these seven particular days are scattered throughout the Islamic year and are listed below:

• 3rd of Muharram
• 10th of Muharram (Day of Ãshurã)
• 27th of Rajab
• 15th of Sha’bân
• 25th of Dhu-l-Qi’da
• 8th of Dhu-l-Hijja
• 9th of Dhu-l-Hijja

The Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) mentioned that there are so many advantages in fasting that it is almost impossible to enumerate all of them, so he recommended that we devote ourselves to fasting during Ramadan and on these seven days. Some of our forefathers used to fast the entire month of Rajab, the entire month of Muharram, the first nine days of Dhu-l-Hijja and the whole month of Sha’bân. They particularly were unanimous in granting preference to certain practices on these days such as: fasting, praying, consolidating kinship bonds, taking a ritual bath, giving charity, nails cutting (hands and feet), applying antimony around eyelids, visiting the ill, visiting the righteous, treating children kindly, reciting Sura Al-Ikhlãs one thousand times and making of a copious meal for our family. I want to make special mention of the 10th of Muharram often called the Day of Ãshurã which is a day endowed with certain historical particularities. Our forefathers have reported that the Day of Ãshurã is the day when Adam was forgiven by ALLAH, Noah’s Ark drew alongside Mount Judi, the Red Sea cleft for Moses, the miraculous birth of Jesus took place, the Pharaoh was drowned, the Prophet Jonah was withdrawn from the entrails of the fish, the Prophet Joseph was taken out of the well which his brothers had thrown him down, the fire was not permitted to burn the Prophet Abraham, the Prophet Enoch (Idris) and the Prophet Isa (Jesus) ascended to their LORD, the granting of complete remission to Prophet David from all that he had committed in the past and the ritual covering of the Sacred House (the Kaaba) is periodically performed .
Our spiritual development and advancement upon the path of ALLAH as a Moorish community will be undertaken by participating in inner reality of the Prophets utilizing the law, history and the gnosis of our ancient forefathers.
We, the Moorish Americans are returning to Islam, which was founded by our forefathers for our earthly and divine salvation. The Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said, “The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets.” So be clear in your understanding, the Prophets did not leave wealth to be inherited from them, they left us knowledge…
